The story of a girl met on a day off
On a day of vacation, he stumbled into a sea of flowers in full bloom in the slums. There he met a girl named Aerith. As the last descendant of the Cetra, she was being targeted by both the Shinra Company and the AVALANCHE organization. Legend has it that the "Promised Land" known to the Cetra is a sacred place where mako gushes forth, so both sides hope to win her power over to their side.
Because Aerith, who had always lived under surveillance, wanted to escape, Aerith had always been searching for the world outside Midgar。
Nomura forgot to draw Aerith's sideburns
Aerith had no sideburns five years ago?
[Nomura Tetsuya]: I never expected to end up drawing so many characters. Still, it wasn't as hard as I'd imagined. For redesigning the Final Fantasy VII characters, I didn't deliberately agonize over them—instead, I purposely avoided looking at reference materials and drew them straight from memory. I think this actually let me capture a feel that's somewhat different from back then. Though, I really had completely forgotten the sideburns on Aerith's hair (laughs).
Later, after the distribution, someone told me: "She has no sideburns." That's when I noticed. Well, I guess these things just happen once in a while.

The protagonist, on vacation for the first time in a long while, got lost in the slums and came to a house covered in blooming flowers, where he met Aerith, a girl being pursued by AVALANCHE. The protagonist rescued her and hid together with her, but Searls appeared and took Aerith away. The protagonist headed to the slum church to rescue Aerith, and found an AVALANCHE executive along with Aerith. Learning that she is an "Ancient," he suggests that Aerith leave and go somewhere no one will target her...
