Around the time we finished making the original Final Fantasy VII, a senior programmer turned to me and said: "It seems Aerith and Tifa don't like each other, don't you think?"

I was shocked to hear this, because they had clearly gone through a wonderful journey together and built a deep friendship through it. But when I asked myself whether I had truly expressed that part of their relationship, I found I wasn't very confident. There weren't enough specific scenes to convey it, nor enough dialogue to hint at their friendship. I regretted this for a long time.

At the start of the Remake project, one of the challenges I set for myself was how to properly portray the friendship between Aerith and Tifa. At the same time, I also worked to express the various relationships between them through other characters' word choices and a variety of different scenes.
