The Lifestream symbolizes Aerith
The confrontation between the Lifestream world symbolizing Aerith and the meteor world symbolizing Sephiroth is an important scene hinting at the duel between the two.
To match the appearance of the strongest enemy, Sephiroth, attention should be paid to the world destroyed by the meteor.
The White Materia played a major role
The White Materia Aerith holds contains the mysterious power of Holy. At this stage, as she says, it is useless, but it later played a major role。
Aerith cast Holy
She was once a flower girl in the Sector 5 slums. By chance she met Cloud and asked him to be her bodyguard, and with that as an opportunity, she left Midgar. Along the way, she learned that Sephiroth was about to destroy the planet with a meteor, and as the only means of countering him, she cast Holy, the White Magic that only the Cetra possess. Soon after, she lost her life at Sephiroth's hands, but she became part of the Lifestream, protecting the planet.
The Holy blocked by Sephiroth
The party enters the depths of the Northern Cave and steps into the Planet's interior, where what greets their eyes is a clear radiance—the light of Holy. However, Holy is blocked by Sephiroth's will。 To release Holy and Aerith's prayer and save the Planet—Cloud and his companions begin their final battle.
The reason Holy had no effect was Sephiroth
Following the Prayer, Once More to the Place of Sorrow
Cloud, Tifa, and their companions succeeded in seizing the Huge Materia from the Underwater Reactor and the rocket. Precisely because of this, Shinra's plan failed, and there was no way to stop the Meteor's arrival. What could be done... While Cloud and the others were pondering this, they thought of Aerith, who had once tried to face the Meteor alone. How did she intend to save the planet—to lift the veil of mystery, the party set out for the Forgotten Capital.
There, they learned of the existence of "Holy.""Holy" is the ultimate White Materia, the opposite of "Meteor", and can wipe away everything that harms the planet. Aerith risked her life to activate Holy. Yet Holy had no effect. Everyone realized thatSephiroth's will was obstructing the activation of Holy's power, and so they resolved to defeat him. To release Aerith's prayer.
Holy is the only means of countering the Meteor
Passed down through generations of the Cetra, the Ultimate White Magic，the only means of countering the Black Magic Meteor. Holy is said to be activated on the water altar of the Forgotten Capital, when the prayers of a Cetra bearing the White Materia allow communication with the Planet. The White Materia was passed down among the Cetra through the generations; Aerith received it from her mother Ifalna and hid it in the ribbon of her hair.
What power Holy would concretely bring cannot be known without actually activating it. The only thing passed down is that "that which is harmful to the planet will vanish."
As proof that the planet had accepted Aerith's prayer, the White Materia gave off a faint green glow at the bottom of the water. But the activation of Holy was long suppressed by the evil will of Sephiroth, who had summoned the Meteor.
Sephiroth could not interrupt Holy, and so he kept suppressing it
Although Aerith's life has ended, Sephiroth(the JENOVA in his form)was unable to stop the prayer of Holy. But Sephiroth, in the Northern Cave, with his strong willpower, suppressed the activation of Holy until the final battle。
Prayers Converged into Holy
The answer from the planet... the Promised Land... After settling his fated conflict with Sephiroth, Cloud found the answer within his own heart. What answer did the planet give him...Aerith's prayer, and the prayers of everyone, converged into Holy and surged forth... After escaping the crater, Cloud and his companions saw... a band of Lifestream light enveloping the entire planet... This was the planet's answer .......
"...I think I understand. The answer from the planet... the Promised Land... there... I'll be able to meet her."
The Meteor was intercepted by the rushing radiance of Holy
The Meteor is approaching Midgar. The tornadoes generated as it nears tear Midgar apart and destroy it. The Meteor is intercepted by the onrushing light of Holy. But the force of the impact is so powerful that it could destroy the Planet. Cloud and his companions can only watch helplessly as the situation unfolds. Just then, a green light—the Lifestream—rises from the surface. More and more light weaves together in layers, enveloping Holy, the Meteor, and the Planet itself. At the last moment, an extraordinarily huge beam of light dyes everyone's vision white. In that light, people see Aerith smiling gently。
Holy, Together with the Lifestream, Saved the Planet
Cloud made his final farewell and laid Aerith to rest in the waters of the Forgotten Capital. Aerith's prayer, paid for with her life, summoned Holy at last and, together with the Lifestream, saved the planet. As the last of the Cetra, unafraid of hardship and driven by a strong will that ran through her fate, she urged Cloud and the others onward. So that they would never again lose what they must protect......
"Yes, I can feel it. It feels like something is guiding me. I have to go. See you when this is all over, okay?"
(Aerith's words appearing in Cloud's dream, in the Sleeping Forest)
