At the time, how great an impact did FFVII have on the world—did you have any real sense of it?
[Nomura]: At the time, the internet was not widespread, and there was nowhere to see other people's opinions, so we didn't know how the public would receive the game. However, as the release date approached, many TV commercials appeared, and that made me feel how large the project was.
—There were several commercials, right
[Nomura]: One of them was shot by Kyle Cooper, and it was really cool. It struck me how differently it could come across depending on how it was edited. That was the beginning of my interest in video collections.
—So today's high-quality trailers exist because of FFVII's commercials!?
[Nomura]: No (laughs). There was an editorial director in the department I had worked with for a long time, and the trailers are the fruit of collaborating with him。
