The answer to who Cloud's light is in KH is left open

The ending holds the answer, but it cannot be asserted
——So the person Cloud is searching for is Aerith after all?
【Nomura】: Who knows? If it were Aerith, then there would be an answer in the ending. Should I say it could also be understood that way? Cloud is a very popular character, so for my part, I don't really want to assert that's how it is. Because the players' own ideas are strong, I want to leave room for everyone to think about it

Whether Tifa is Cloud's light is an open topic
We hope you can freely consider what kind of existence Tifa is
—Speaking of Tifa, after defeating Sephiroth, there is an event with Cloud.
[Nomura]: In Nojima's draft, the relationship between Cloud and Tifa was described in more detail, but I cut it. I think it's more interesting to let players think for themselves。 For example, "If Sephiroth is Cloud's darkness, then Tifa is his light"In that sense, you can also interpret Tifa as a non-human existence. The reason Tifa doesn't talk to anyone other than Sora and the others might be that she doesn't exist as a human. Of course, you can also see her as a resident of Radiant Garden like Cid, Aerith and the others, so you are free to think about this question。

Aerith belongs to neither light nor darkness, yet possesses both light and darkness
—Nomura said, "If the darkness for Cloud is Sephiroth, then the light can be Tifa." So what position does Mr. Nojima think Aerith would be in?
[Nojima]: Personally, I think Aerith belongs to neither light nor darkness. It's like she is in another world, and if she wished, she could go to either side—that's the feeling. She isn't dyed by the light or by the darkness, but is an independent existence. To put it coolly, she is the most dependable existence, possessing the qualities of both light and darkness at once.

Deliberately designed as an answer you can see in the ending
—About Cloud, I'd also like to know some background setting: is he from Hollow Bastion?
[Nomura]: In the setting of Kingdom Hearts, you could say so.
—If so, when Cid fled Hollow Bastion with the other members, was Cloud left behind?
[Nomura]: They were just separated in the confusion; he wasn't left behind (laughs). Cid and the others presumably escaped in the chaos.
—Then, the person Cloud is searching for—is it Aerith after all?
[Nomura]: How should I put it? If it's Aerith, then there is a clear answer in theending of the game. Or rather, that part was deliberately designed so that it can be understood that way—that was the intent. After all, Cloud is a very popular character, and I didn't want to be too definitive. Because players are deeply emotionally invested in the characters, I wanted to leave some room for everyone to think.

Judging from the ending it seems to be Aerith, but it could also be someone else
Who is the person Cloud is searching for?
In the FM version, Cloud and Sephiroth are searching for each other, asking about each other's whereabouts. But the person Cloud speaks of isn't necessarily just one. Judging from one scene in the ending, he seems to be looking for Aerith, but it could also be someone else。

Cloud was running away from Tifa; Tifa wasn't initially planned to appear
—Tifa from Final Fantasy VII makes an appearance.
[Nojima]: Actually, Tifa wasn't planned to appear at first. While discussing with Tetsuya what Cloud was doing in Hollow Bastion, we decided to go in the direction of Cloud being chased by something. Cloud was actually running away from something, though he claims he is chasing Sephiroth. Therefore, we set it up that, as in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children,he was running away from the "warm thing" that Tifa was pursuing。
(Tifa's first appearance in Kingdom Hearts 2)

Well, I won't let him run away from me forever
Cloud does not acknowledge Tifa's light
【Tifa】: Cloud, you can use my light
【Sephiroth】: That light is not for you
【Cloud】: I don't know…

Yin and Yang in Rebirth
Main Character Modeling Artist: Yuki Saeki
Zack's face was created while referencing past design art, based on the relationship of "Sephiroth, who is a yin presence to Cloud, and Zack, who is a yang presence". For the full-body CG, in the final adjustment stage the direction of the face and gaze were corrected, strengthening the look of his eyes while also conveying gentleness and reliability.
