① In the Remake, the white feather hints at "Angel"
— A quick question: is there any meaning to the white feather that falls near Zack, who is carrying Cloud, at the beginning of the story?
【Nomura】: What could it be? It might be a hint at "Angel" or something like that (laughs)
What Nomura said was: アンジ (anji). Angel: アンジェ (anje). Angeal: アンジール (anjiru). Nomura used a pun here.
② The white feather symbolizes Angel
In scene 09-02, there is a scene like this: Zack stands on the water's surface, looking up at the white feathers drifting across the blue sky. When asked about the developers' intent regarding the direction of this scene, the answer given was: "Zack inherited Angel's will, yet he could not even save a single person, and being trapped in Nibelheim left him feeling despair and helplessness. When Angel rebuked him for this unbearable state, Zack decided to pull himself back together. This resolve is embodied in the mental landscape at the beginning of Chapter 9.
The blue sky symbolizes Zack, the white feather symbolizes Angel, and the water's surface symbolizes Aerith.
Just as the blue sky used as the emblem in 《CC》 symbolizes Zack as the ideal First-Class SOLDIER in 《FF7》. It is an image of Zack at his best and in his perfect state. Viewed from another angle, it also symbolizes ideals, goals, and dreams.
The "white feather" is a symbol of Angel, and also a symbol of "wings." Angel's wings are wings that span the blue sky, and this image suggests that Angel must overcome countless hardships to reach his heights and dreams.
The "water's surface" reflecting the "blue sky" symbolizes Aerith. When Aerith hears the voice of the Planet, it is interpreted as her entering the Lifestream, so the image of Aerith's consciousness passing through the water's surface evokes the Lifestream. Or alternatively, it is itself a symbol of the Lifestream, a kind of will of the Planet.
Through these three connections, it hints at the whole story.
